This learning activity focuses on visual discrimination and magnetism. Visual discrimination is essential for young children because it is the foundation for reading and writing success. Visual discrimination is the ability to differentiate differences between objects in terms of size, shape, angle and location. For example, the letters F and E are very similar but have competently different meanings, and those with sharp visual discrimination skills will be better able to identify these differences and read!
Simply pick a pattern card and use the random metal pieces to recreate the image on the card. You need to start at the bottom and work your way up. Metal objects stick to the strong magnetic base and transfer the magnetism through the objects. This is also a fun fidget toy for children or adults in the office. Simply create sculptures with the objects and repeat!
What is included:
– 1 strong magnet measuring 2 3/8” x 1 1/8” x 1/2” thick
– An assortment of metal objects
– You get 20 patterns (10 double-sided cards). The cards are 2.6″ x 2.5″ and a professionally printed on 100# cardstock and laminated with 5mil lamination. These cards are very durable and classroom tough.
What they are learning WHILE having fun:
– Hand/Eye coordination – Being able to line up and stack the metal objects on top of each other.
– Fine motor – Practicing using fine motor pincer grasp in order to manipulate the metal objects. Builds hand muscles and dexterity which are essential for a proper pencil grasp.
– Visual Discrimination – Visually discriminate the metal objects in terms of shape, size and angle.
– Problem Solving – You need to work from the bottom up!
